The Estate
The Masse family's Burgundy winegrowing roots reach back to 1595. The present estate was created by Claude Masse, originally a cooper, and later developed by his son Jean-Baptiste. Today the domaine is directed by Fabrice Masse, continuing a family line that also includes Roland Masse, former régisseur of the Hospices de Beaune.
Vineyard
The domaine covers about 15 hectares in the Côte Chalonnaise and works a broad range of Burgundy appellations, including Givry, Mercurey, Rully, Montagny and regional Bourgogne wines. Vine vigor and yields are controlled through short pruning, rigorous disbudding and surface cultivation, with winter grass cover and no fertilizer additions.
Sustainability
Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) Level 3 certified since 2019. The domaine uses reasoned farming, winter grass cover and regular shallow soil cultivation.
Cellar & People
Red fruit is fully destemmed, carefully sorted and cooled before a five-to-six-day cold soak, followed by roughly two weeks of fermentation with twice-daily pumpovers and no punch-downs. Reds age about 10 to 14 months in barrel with no more than one-third new oak. Whites are pressed directly, cold settled and fermented in barrel, then aged roughly 10 to 12 months.
