The Estate
Nearly two centuries of family winegrowing have shaped Domaine Trapet’s approach in Gevrey-Chambertin. Jeanlouis Trapet and the next generation, Pierre and Louis, place the work in the vineyard first, then handle the fruit with care in the cellar. The family was an early proponent of biodynamic farming in Burgundy, seeking wines that speak clearly of their place.
Vineyard
Trapet farms parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, Marsannay and the Côte de Beaune, including sites in Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin. The family considers vineyard work the foundation of each wine, following the character and needs of each parcel through the growing season.
Sustainability
Domaine Trapet is certified biodynamic and was among the early proponents of biodynamic farming in Burgundy. For the family, this is a continuing commitment to attentive vineyard work and to expressing the character of each parcel in the finished wine.
Cellar & People
In the cellar, Trapet favors native yeasts and a gentle approach to extraction, with less pumping over and punching down. The family works with both large vessels and smaller barrels and bottles by gravity. These choices are intended to preserve the character of the fruit and its vineyard.
